Quotes for All Saints Day...

All Saints Day, a holy day for The Roman Catholic Church, falls on
Monday, November 1, 2010 (tomorrow) this year. It is a celebration
of all the Christians who have departed and are in Heaven. Below,
I have some favorite quotes of well-known and lesser-known
Christians throughout the ages. I hope they bless you as much as
they have me. Sending out joy... Val =)

Quotes for All Saints Day

"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life,
what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your
body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food,
and the body more than clothing?"
- Saint Matthew, Matthew: 6:25

"Whoever does not seek the cross of Christ
doesn't seek the glory of Christ."
- Saint John of the Cross

"Though the path is plain and smooth for men of good will,
he who walks it will not travel far, and will do so only with
difficulty, if he does not have good feet: that is,
courage and a persevering spirit."
- Saint John of the Cross

"Be sure that you first preach by the way you live.
If you do not, people will notice that you say one thing,
but live otherwise, and your words will bring only cynical
laughter and a derisive shake of the head."
- Saint Charles Borromeo

"One single act done with dryness of spirit is worth
more than many done with feelings of devotion."
- Saint Francis de Sales

"You can win more converts with a spoonful of honey
than with a barrelful of vinegar."
- Saint Francis de Sales

"One must not think that a person who is suffering
is not praying. He is offering up his sufferings to God,
and many a time he is praying much more truly than one
who goes away by himself and meditates his head off, and,
if he has squeezed out a few tears, thinks that is prayer."
- Saint Teresa of Avila

"Suffering is a great favor. Remember that everything
soon comes to an end... and take courage.
Think of how our gain is eternal."
- Saint Teresa of Avila

"Leave sadness to those in the world.
We who work for God should be light-hearted."
- Saint Leonard of Port Maurice

"The recollection of an injury is...
a rusty arrow and poison for the soul."
- Saint Francis of Paola

"For pity's sake,
don't start meeting troubles halfway."
- Saint Teresa of Avila

Halloween Fun!...

Hi and happy Halloween weekend to everyone out there! I am
not a fan of Halloween, but I know a lot of you celebrate it.
I try to take the "edge" off of it and make it fun and not dark
or demonic. As a Christian, I don't want anything evil or immoral
in this blog. If you find anything offensive here, please know it
wasn't intentional.

I have some Halloween fun for you today! You may want to share
some of the links with your kids, too. It may take awhile to go
through these and you could get a bit addicted to a couple of them,
so get a cup of your favorite beverage and sit back in a comfy
chair and enjoy!! Sending out peace and love and joy this Halloween
weekend. Please stay safe. Val =)

Quotes on How to Treat Others...

Quotes on How to Treat Others

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak,
but their echoes are truly endless."
- Mother Teresa

"It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy
to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to
relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone
unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is
where our love for each other must start."
- Mother Teresa

"Our prime purpose in this life is to help others.
And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them."
- The Dalai Lama

"The charity that is a trifle to us can be precious to others."
- Homer

"The weak can never forgive.
Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."
- Mahatma Gandhi

"To err is human, to forgive divine."
- Alexander Pope

"Do right. Do your best.
Treat others as you want to be treated."
- Lou Holtz

"Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to
you - not because they are nice, but because you are."
- Author Unknown

"Whoever one is, and wherever one is,
one is always in the wrong if one is rude."
- Maurice Baring

"A little consideration, a little thought for others,
makes all the difference."
- A. A. Milne, 'Winnie The Pooh'

"Just because an animal is large, it doesn't mean he
doesn't want kindness; however big Tigger seems to be,
remember that he wants as much kindness as Roo."
- A. A. Milne, 'Winnie The Pooh'

Some Ways To Confuse Trick-Or-Treaters...

a rerun of a favorite Halloween joke:

Some Ways To Confuse Trick-Or-Treaters

* Give away something other than candy (e.g. toothpicks,
golf balls, bags of sand, etc.).

* Fill a briefcase with marbles and crackers. Write
"TOP SECRET" on it in big letters. When trick-or-
treaters come, look around suspiciously and say,
"It's about time you got here." Give them the
briefcase and quickly shut the door.

* Get about 30 people to wait in your living room. When
trick-or-treaters come to the door say, "Come in." When
they do, have everyone yell, "Surprise!!!" Act like it's
a surprise party.

* Get everyone who knocks on the door to come in and see if
they can figure out what's wrong with your dishwasher.

* After you give them candy, hand the trick-or-treaters a bill.

* Answer the door dressed as a pilgrim. Stare at the trick-or-
treaters for a moment and pretend to be confused. Start
flipping through a calendar.

* Instead of candy, give away colored eggs. If anyone
protests, explain that the eggs are the only thing you
had left over from Easter.

* Put a crown on a pumpkin and put the pumpkin on a throne on
your porch. Insist that all the trick-or-treaters bow before
the pumpkin.

A Funny - The Halloween Story...

The Halloween Story

Bob Hill and his new wife Betty were vacationing in Europe,
as it happens, near Transylvania .

They were driving in a rental car along a rather deserted
highway.

It was late and raining very hard. Bob could barely see the
road in front of the car. Suddenly, the car skids out of
control! Bob attempts to control the car, but to no avail!
The car swerves and smashes into a tree!

Moments later, Bob shakes his head to clear the fog. Dazed,
he looks over at the passenger seat and sees his wife
unconscious with her head bleeding!

Despite the rain and unfamiliar countryside, Bob knows he
must get her medical assistance.

Bob carefully picks up his wife and begins trudging down
the road. After a short while, he sees a light. He heads
toward the light, which is coming from a large, old house.

He approaches the door and knocks.

A minute passes.

A small, hunched man opens the door.

Bob immediately blurts, "Hello, my name is Bob Hill and this
is my wife Betty. We've been in a terrible accident and my
wife has been seriously hurt. Can I please use your phone?"

"I'm sorry," replied the hunchback, "but we don't have a
phone. My master is a doctor; come in, and I will get him!"

Bob brings his wife in.

An older man comes down the stairs. "I'm afraid my assistant
may have misled you. I am not a medical doctor; I am a
scientist. However, it is many miles to the nearest clinic, and
I have had a basic medical training. I will see what I can do.
Igor, bring them down to the laboratory."

With that, Igor picks up Betty and carries her downstairs,
with Bob following closely. Igor places Betty on a table in
the lab. Bob collapses from exhaustion and his own injuries,
so Igor places Bob on an adjoining table.

After a brief examination, Igor's master looks worried.
"Things are very serious, Igor. Prepare a transfusion."

Igor and his master work feverishly, but to no avail. Bob and
Betty Hill are no more.

The Hills' deaths upset Igor's master greatly.

Wearily, he climbs the steps to his conservatory, which
houses his grand piano. For it is here that he has always
found solace.

He begins to play, and a stirring, almost haunting melody fills
the large house.

Meanwhile, Igor is still in the lab tidying up. His eyes catch
movement, and he notices the fingers on Betty's hand twitch,
keeping time to the haunting piano music. Stunned, he watches
as Bob's arm begins to rise, marking the beat! He is further
amazed as Betty and Bob both sit up straight!

Unable to contain himself, he dashes up the stairs to the
conservatory.

He bursts in and shouts to his master:

"Master, Master!...The Hills are alive with the sound of music!"
