Verses and Quotes on Prayer
"The righteous cry out and the Lord hears,
and delivers them out of all their troubles."
- Psalm 34:17
"And whatever you ask in My name,
that I will do that The Father may be glorified
in The Son. If you ask anything in My name
I will do it."
- John 14:13, 14
"Anything big enough to occupy our minds
is big enough to hang a prayer on."
- George Macdonald
"Contemplative prayer... in my opinion
is nothing else than a close sharing between friends;
it means taking time frequently to be alone
with Him who we know loves us."
- St. Teresa of Avila
"Prayer is not overcoming God's reluctance,
but laying hold of His willingness."
- Martin Luther
"It is necessary to rouse the heart to pray,
otherwise it will become quite dry.
The attributes of prayer must be:
love of God, sincerity, and simplicity."
- John of Kronstadt
"Praying without faith is like trying
to cut with a blunt knife -
much labor expended to little purpose."
- Anonymous
"Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message,
oppose our arguments, despise our persons;
but they are helpless against our prayers."
- J. Sidlow Baxter
I like St. Teresa of Avila on contemplative prayer. I also like the last quote. It shows persistence.

I'm tied between George Mac Donald and John of Kronstadt as my favorite, of course with Scriptures and the words of any Saint, you can't go wrong either...they're all excellent, as always.
