A Funny - The Month After Christmas

The Month After Christmas

'Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I’d nibble, the eggnog I’d taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I’d remember the marvelous meals I’d prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rare,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese,
And the way I’d never said, “No thank you, please.”
As I dressed myself in my husband’s old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt -
I said to myself, as I only can, “You can’t spend
a winter disguised as a man!”
So - away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip,
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished,
‘Til all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won’t have a cookie - not even a lick.
I’ll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won’t have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
I’ll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I’m hungry, I’m lonesome, and life is a bore -
But isn’t that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, not long a riot,
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Joke - New Years Resolutions For Internet Junkies

New Years Resolutions For Internet Junkies

* I will try to figure out why I "really"
need 12 e-mail addresses.

* I will stop sending e-mail to my wife (husband).
A phone call every now and then would be appreciated.

* I will answer my snail mail with the same
enthusiasm with which I answer my e-mail.

* I will stop sending e-mail, ICQ, and instant messages and
be on the phone at the same time with the same person
.

* I resolve to back up my 12GB hard drive daily...
well, once a week... okay, monthly then...
or maybe... at least once a year.

* I will spend less than one hour a day on the Internet.
This, of course, will be hard to estimate since I'm not
a clock watcher. (One hour :-o!!! LOL Tee Hee..)

* I will stop checking my e-mail at 3:00 in the morning.
4:30 is much more practical since my friends
overseas already had time to answer me by then.

* When I hear a funny joke, I will
not reply, "LOL... LOL!"

* I will read the manual... just as
soon as I can find it.

* I will think of a password other than "password".

* I resolve... I resolve to... I resolve to, uh...
I resolve to, uh, get my, er... I resolve to, uh,
get my, er, off-line work done, too!

Jokes for the New Year...

A Bad Dream?

Jemima was taking an afternoon nap on New Year's Eve before the festivities.

After she woke up, she confided to Max, her husband, "I just dreamed that you
gave me a diamond ring for a New Year's present! What do you think it all means?"

"Aha, you'll know tonight," answered Max smiling broadly.

At midnight, as the New Year was chiming, Max approached Jemima and
handed her a small package. Delighted and excited, she opened it quickly.

There in her hand rested a book entitled, 'The Meaning of Dreams'.

New Year's Day Party - That Never Was?

As in many homes on New Year's Day, Janet and Nigel, a happily married couple,
faced the annual conflict of which was more important - the football match
on television, or the lunch itself.

Hoping to keep the peace, Nigel ate lunch with the rest of the family, and even
lingered for some pleasant after-lunch chat, before retiring to the lounge
to turn on the television.

Some minutes later, Janet looked in to see how Nigel was and graciously
even brought him a cold beer. She smiled, kissed him on the cheek,
and asked what the score was. Nigel told her it was half time and that
the score was still 0 - 0.

"See?" Janet said happily, "You didn't miss a thing."

History and Lyrics of Auld Lang Syne

History and Lyrics of Auld Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne was partially written by Robert Burns in the
1700's and was first published in 1796 after his death.
Early variations of the song were sung prior to 1700 and
inspired Burns to produce the modern rendition.
'Auld Lang Syne', an old Scotch tune, literally means
'old long ago' or 'the good old days'.

Its lyrics and meanings are below:

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit,
Sin auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne

Meanings:

auld lang syne - times gone by
be - pay for
braes - hills
braid - broad
burn - stream
dine - dinner time
fiere - friend
fit - foot
gowans - daisies
guid-willie waught - goodwill drink
monie - many
morning sun - noon
paidl't - paddled
pint-stowp - pint tankard

Joke - New Year's Eve Lecture

New Year's Eve Lecture

On New Year's Eve, Daniel was in no shape to drive, so he sensibly left his van in the
car park and walked home. As he was wobbling along, he was stopped by a policeman.
"What are you doing out here at four o'clock in the morning?" asked the police officer.

"I'm on my way to a lecture," answered Roger.

"And who on earth, in their right mind, is going to give a lecture at this
time on New Year's Eve?" enquired the constable sarcastically.

"My wife," slurred Daniel grimly.

Quotes for a New Year...

Quotes for a New Year

"Be always at war with your vices,
at peace with your neighbors, and let
each new year find you a better man."
- Benjamin Franklin

"New Year's Day is every man's birthday."
- Charles Lamb

“The object of a new year is not that we should have
a new year. It is that we should have a new soul”
- G. K. Chesterton

"New Year's eve is like every other night;
there is no pause in the march of the universe,
no breathless moment of silence among created
things that the passage of another twelve months
may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same
thoughts this evening that come with the
coming of darkness on other nights."
- Hamilton Wright Mabie

"No one ever regarded the First of January
with indifference. It is that from which all date
their time, and count upon what is left. It is
the nativity of our common Adam."
- Charles Lamb

"A New Year's resolution is something that
goes in one year and out the other."
- Author Unknown

"Year's end is neither an end nor a
beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom
that experience can instill in us."
- Hal Borland

"Every man should be born again on the first
day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one
hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one,
according to circumstances; but on the first of January
let every man gird himself once more, with his
face to the front, and take no interest in the
things that were and are past."
- Henry Ward Beecher

"A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year."
- Edgar Guest
